As the first Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan lost the no-confidence motion in the National Assembly.
The vote took place after midnight, despite multiple attempts to block a no-confidence motion in the National Assembly. In the 342-member House, 174 members voted in favor of the resolution, with members of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) absent.
According to the report, no prime minister of Pakistan has so far completed his five-year term.
The new government will not do politics of revenge
However, the United Opposition had earlier announced that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shahbaz Sharif would be their joint candidate. In such a situation, Shahjab Sharif may be elected the new Prime Minister of the country on Monday. Shahbaz has promised that the new government will not engage in politics of revenge.
“I don’t want to go back to the bitterness of the past. We have to forget it and move on. We will not do any revenge or injustice. We will not send anyone. Jail for no reason,” Shahbaz said after the vote of confidence was announced.
Following the results of the confidence vote, Pakistan People’s Party President Bilawal Bhutto Zardari congratulated the House for passing a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister for the first time in the country’s history.
Meanwhile, PTI MP Faisal Javed said that Imran Khan had left the official residence of the Prime Minister before the vote of no-confidence.
