The finance minister is holding meetings with various stakeholders to prepare the budget. This meeting is part of that chain. Sitharaman will present the budget for 2022-23, probably on 1 February. This will be Sitharaman’s fourth budget as finance minister.
Sitharaman has so far met with corporate, financial companies, trade unions, agronomists and leading economists. Suggestions such as rationalization of income tax slabs, state of digital services infrastructure and promotion of hydrogen storage were given at these meetings.
According to a statement issued by the finance ministry last week, eight such meetings were held between December 15 and December 22. On December 15, the finance minister began pre-budget discussions with people from various sectors and industries.
