Khare is an IAS officer of 1985 batch of Bihar-Jharkhand cadre and took over as Secretary, Ministry of Education (Department of Higher Education) in December 2019.
Within a short time of his appointment, the cabinet had approved the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) on 29 July 2020. He was retired earlier this month.
