Former IAS officer Shah Faisal is likely to be appointed as an advisor to Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha. Faesal had quit politics last year after being placed under house arrest under the Public Security Act (PSA). CNN-News18 quoted sources as saying that he will advise the Lieutenant Governor and the administration on local matters.
Interestingly, Faesal’s appointment, which is likely to be announced soon, comes at a time when killings of civilians are on the rise in the Valley. Terrorists have killed seven civilians, including four from minority communities, in Kashmir in five days.
Shah Faesal, who topped the IAS exam in 2009, was known as the youth icon in the valley. He resigned from the Indian Civil Service in January 2019 and floated a new political party in Jammu and Kashmir in August the same year, but abruptly quit politics last year amid speculation that he would return to government service.
Even though his political career did not expand much, Faesal has a deep connection with the people of the Valley. Sources say that through them, the Center will help in establishing dialogue with the youth in Jammu and Kashmir. “This will be the beginning of a political dialogue,” government sources said.
Faesal, 37, had tendered his resignation from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in January 2019 to start a new regional party – the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movenet (JKPM). He was the first candidate from the erstwhile state to top the Civil Services Examination.
