At least 28 people were hospitalized after a gas leak came to light on Tuesday at a chemical factory located in the MIDC area of Ambernath. All these people complained of shortness of breath. According to civic officials, the incident took place around 11 am on Tuesday, when sulfuric gas leaked from the RK Chemical Plant in Ambernath West, The Indian Express reported.
A total of 34 people, including employees of the company and others in the surrounding area, were affected due to the gas leak. The officials of the fire department and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, who reached the spot, fixed the leak.
Thane’s Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) Chief Santosh Kadam said, “The situation was brought under control within an hour of reaching the spot. All the patients are admitted to the Central Hospital in Ulhas Nagar.”
A doctor at the hospital said, “While 28 people were admitted to the hospital, the remaining six were given first aid. All of them are under observation and the condition of 27 patients is stable while one person is in critical condition. He is being treated properly.”
