Spectrum auctions in the country have started from Monday (March 1). Veteran telecom operator Bharti Airtel said on Tuesday that it had acquired Radiowaves worth Rs 18,699 crore in the latest auction of spectrum. The company said in a statement that the company has acquired 355.45 MHz spectrum, mid band and 2,300 MHz band. This has given the company the strongest spectrum holding in the country. Airtel said that due to this it will get success in providing 5G services in future.
The company says that now it has acquired spectrum in the Gigahertz sub-region across the country, so that its services in cities will be able to give good coverage indoors and also in buildings. Apart from this, the telecom services of the company will also be better in the villages with this spectrum. Airtel has said that despite the availability of large quantities of spectrum in the auction, no bids were received from the operators in the 700 MHz band, as this band does not become useful for them economically. The reserve price of this band has been kept very high.
Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO of Bharti Airtel’s India and South Asia region, said the company now has a strong spectrum portfolio. With this, the company will be able to give its customers the best mobile broadband experience in India. At the same time, Vodafone Idea, which was the least aggressive player in the 4G spectrum auction held on Monday and Tuesday, said that it has acquired airwaves in 5 circles to increase its 4G capacity. In a statement on Tuesday, the third largest telecom operator said that the spectrum we have acquired in five circles will help enhance our 4G coverage and capacity while providing a better digital experience for our customers.
Vodafone Idea has deposited an initial amount of Rs 475 crore (Earnest Money Deposit, EMD). The spectrum auction, conducted by the Department of Telecommunications, ended today on the second day of the bidding. In this, 2,308.80 Mogahtz spectrum worth Rs 4 lakh crore was put up for auction in a total of seven bands. A total of Rs 77,146 crore bids were received on the first day of the auction. It was attended by Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. The government said on the bids received that it was better than expected.
