In the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday called on Home Minister Amit Shah to implement two agreements signed between the central government and the Naga group to resolve the Naga issue. In a letter to Chowdhury Shah, he further said that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had offered unconditional talks with Naga groups in the 1980s and talks with these groups started in 1997.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “Currently two such agreements have been signed between the Naga group and the central government … The parties concerned are demanding implementation of these agreements. I urge you to implement these agreements.
Veteran Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury said this in a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah. “I would like to draw your attention to a very important issue of national concern,” he said. I am writing this letter to find a solution for the people of Nagaland. “31 years ago, our leader, the late Shri Rajiv Gandhi, offered to negotiate with the Naga rebels without any preconditions,” he wrote. 19 May 1991 at Dimapur. This discussion started in 1997. At present we have two formal agreements between the central government and the Nagas.
The framework agreement was signed on 3 August 2015 at the Prime Minister’s residence. The agreement was signed on 17 November 2017. In the above case the Governor and the negotiator announced in his speech to the Nagaland State Assembly in February 2021 that the talks were over. The motion of thanks was accepted at the meeting. The chief minister then moved a resolution calling for the resumption of talks instead of supporting the implementation of the Rio Accords. We call it a flipflop. The concerned people have demanded to implement the agreement considering the agreed issues. In view of the above, I kindly request you to implement the above agreements.
