Gujarat News: Assam Police termed the arrest of Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mewani as “undemocratic and unconstitutional”, Congress on Thursday alleged that the development shows that “Shahenshah” has panicked. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “(Narendra) Modiji, you can try to stifle the voice of protest using government machinery. But the truth can never be captured.

Casey Venugopal, general secretary of the Congress organization, said Mewani’s arrest was “undemocratic and unconstitutional” and that such a move would undermine democracy. The party’s chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told reporters that Shahenshah was terrified. Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mewani has been arrested by Assam police overnight. There is a message and a sign of this panic, this nervousness.

“Is it a crime in this country now to appeal to the Prime Minister for communal harmony and not to fight people in the name of religion?” Is it a crime to expect the Prime Minister to come to Gujarat and appeal for peace on Mahatma Gandhi’s soil? ” Surjewala said, “We will continue to fight for communal harmony and brotherhood. Neither Modiji nor any other power in the country can defeat it. ” He said that the entire Congress party was standing shoulder to shoulder with Mewani.

Rajesh Lilothia, president of the Congress Scheduled Cell, condemned Mewani’s arrest and said Mewani should be released immediately and the Assam government should apologize. It may be mentioned that Assam Police arrested Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mewani from Palanpur town of the state late on Wednesday night in connection with a tweet.

Mewani’s aide Suresh Jat said Mewani, a prominent Dalit leader from Gujarat, was arrested shortly after he lodged an FIR under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The FIR has been lodged at Kokrajhar police station in Assam.
