Delhi: BJP MP Manoj Tiwari in the grip of water cannon, hospitalized

DDMA banned the organization of Chhath Puja celebrations in Delhi so that there is no increase in the corona case. MP Manoj Tiwari, who came to protest this decision, got injured after being hit by a water cannon.

A source close to the North-East Delhi MP said, “Manoj Tiwari has suffered injuries near his neck and is undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.”

Were opposing the ban on Chhath Puja

The incident took place on Tuesday during a BJP protest in front of the official residence of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader over the Delhi Disaster Management Authority’s (DDMA) order banning the celebration of Chhath Puja in the national capital. Earlier this month, the DDMA issued COVID-19 guidelines, prohibiting Chhath Puja celebrations in public places in the city and advising people to celebrate it at their homes.

What happens if you stand in water for a while?

Earlier, Tiwari had said that he would defy DDMA’s orders to celebrate the most popular festival in Bihar, Jharkhand, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. He asked, ‘If the opening of swimming pools in the capital has not led to a rise in the number of Covid cases, then how will the Chhath Puja celebrations lead to an increase in infections, standing in water for a while?’ He said, “The Kejriwal government may make thermal scanning mandatory for entry into Chhath places of worship and may also make it necessary to video-record the celebrations. Around 2 crore vaccine doses have been administered in Delhi. Kovid cases are lowest in Delhi.
