The Delhi government has set up an old age home for the poor in Delhi at Kanti Nagar in the Gandhi Nagar area, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today. The old age home has been named as Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Senior Citizen Nibas, the fourth old age home built by the government in Delhi, though the Delhi government is constructing a total of nine such old age homes.
In terms of facilities, the old age home provides free accommodation for the elderly, food, clothes, bedding, TV, radio, books, entertainment center, bhajan-kirtan program, health, physiotherapy etc. After the inauguration of the old age home, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that there is no one to take care of the elderly, their son will take care of them, we will give them a life of dignity. All the state-of-the-art facilities are completely free for them in this residence. We have tried to force the elderly to stay here so that they do not feel that they have left. I pray to God that there is no need to build such a dwelling. May all the elders be happy and joyful in their own homes with their children.
117 rooms ready
The five-storey Senior Citizen Home has 117 rooms, of which 81 are for men and 36 for women. Earlier three similar old age homes have been inaugurated, five more buildings are under construction. This time, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, ‘We have also started a pilgrimage for the elderly in Delhi. The pilgrimage was stopped due to Corona. The Delhi government brings in the elderly through free pilgrimage. The government conducts pilgrimages to many places including Dwarka, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Mathura, Vrindavan, Ayodhya, Ajmer Sharif, Rameshwaram and Shirdi.
Arvind Kejriwal said that wherever you want to go, go to the website and register yourself. Pick it up for free and bring it to you from home. Take you on the AC train and stay at the AC hotel and everything is free for meals. Come on a good pilgrimage in old age, it will be very good. Those who go on pilgrimage, I go to get them off the train. When they come back we bring them. They are very happy.
Built in memory of Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar
At the time, Delhi’s Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam had said that April 14 was the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar. We have built this Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Senior Citizen Residence for the elderly in his memory. Many were asking to write an ashram instead of a residence, but we said that in the old age home comes the feeling that no one can see these elders. Where Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the form of Shravan Kumar is making a pilgrimage to all the elders of Delhi, irrespective of caste and creed. The elders who have no one to look after, are making all the arrangements for them by becoming their son.
Rajendra Pal Gaitam said he went to Uttarakhand on the last day. There I saw the old age home of bureaucrats and big capitalists. He has built an old age home for himself with a few crores of rupees. Where are we going that we can’t even respect our parents? The parents who give birth to the child. The mother lets her child sleep together. She goes to the bathroom, then her mother lets her sleep dry and falls asleep by herself. She herself is hungry, but takes care of the child. When the same parents are needed, the same children do not take care of their parents, it is very shameful. At least it has nothing in common with Indian culture.
