Election 2022: Centre’s meeting with Electoral State officials, ECO took details

Election 2022: Corona’s growing case has raised concerns ahead of assembly elections in five states early next year. Meanwhile, on Monday, the Union Health Ministry held a high-level meeting with officials from UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur. At the same time, the Election Commission gave details in a meeting with the Ministry of Health earlier.

At the meeting of the Ministry of Health, the selected states were advised to expedite the corona vaccination of all eligible adult populations for the first dose and to ensure that those who will be given the second dose have been given the second dose. To this end, district-wise weekly vaccination implementation plans have been prepared and state officials have been advised to review the immunization status on a daily basis.

These five polling states were advised to expedite corona testing so that infected cases could be identified in a timely manner. Necessary public health response measures can be taken in this regard, so that the incidence of corona infection does not increase suddenly. At the same time, state officials are strongly advised to ensure that Kovid’s appropriate behavior is strictly followed.

At the meeting, Uttarakhand and Goa gave information about the coverage of the first and second doses above the national average. Where as in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Manipur the number of vaccine coverage is less than the national average. A total of 142.38 crore corona vaccine has been administered so far, of which 83.80 crore are the first dose of the vaccine and 58.58 crore are the second dose of the corona vaccine.

Election Commission meeting
On Monday, the Election Commission along with the Union Health Secretary reviewed the Covid-19 situation in the states where elections are to be held. The commission has asked the government to speed up the immunization program in these states. The commission said that in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Manipur, the percentage of people taking the first dose of corona virus vaccine is still low, while in Uttarakhand and Goa it is around 100 per cent.

According to senior sources, the Election Commission has asked Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan to expedite the distribution of the second dose to eligible persons in the five constituencies. The commission has also met top officials of ITBP, BSF and SSB and asked them to maintain strict surveillance at international borders.

Sources close to the meetings said that Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan briefed the Election Commission about the situation in Kovid for about an hour, especially in Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The spread of coronavirus omicron form was also discussed.

The Goa, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Manipur Assembly terms will expire on different dates in March next year, while the Uttar Pradesh Assembly term will expire in May. The Election Commission may announce the date of the election next month.
