French citizens living in the Union Territory of Pondicherry voted in the country’s presidential election (French presidential election 2022) here on Sunday. Pondicherry was formerly a French colony. Official sources said that 4,564 French citizens from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry French citizens) voted in the first round of the French election.
According to sources, the voting started at 8 in the morning (French presidential election 2022 voting) and lasted till 7 in the evening, in which 12 candidates are contesting in this election. If no candidate gets an absolute majority in the first round, elections will be held on April 24 between the top two candidates.
According to a release, “France gives its citizens the right to vote in the country in which they live, over 18 years of age and registered with the French Consulate General.”

Two polling stations have been set up in the premises of the French Consulate General in Pondicherry and one each in Karaikal and Chennai. One voter said he was studying at a college affiliated with the University of Pondicherry and was exercising his franchise for the first time.
