Piyush Jain IT Raid: A team of GST detectives returned to the house of businessman Piyush Jain in Kanauj at around 1.30 pm on Tuesday night. During the seven-day operation, cash of Tk 197.45 crore, 23 kg of gold and 600 kg of sandalwood oil were seized. According to sources, an attempt has been made to delete the serial number of the gold biscuit found from Piyush Jain’s house. It is said that the serial number has been deleted.
GST Intelligence officials have handed over all legal documents related to the action taken against Piyush Goel to his sons. Police have been deployed for the safety of the two boys present at Piyush’s house. On Wednesday morning, Piyush’s sons will lock up their ancestral home and leave for Kanpur. Hundreds of samples of chemicals and compounds kept in the godown next to Piyush Jain’s house have also been kept safe for testing. During the operation, the GST intelligence team also found many important documents, which are being investigated.
Also, the search team found about Rs 17 crore in cash from the traders’ premises (residential and factory premises) in Kanauj. The Ahmedabad unit of DGGI started searching Piyush Jain’s premises on December 22 on charges of tax evasion. A search of Kanpur’s dormitory has been completed, but a search is still underway at his place in Kanauj.
The GST team arrested him on Sunday after recovering undeclared cash and valuables worth crores of rupees from the trader. On Monday, he was produced in the Metropolitan Court in Kanpur, from where he was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. Joint Director (Prosecution) Sanjay Kumar Tripathi said Jain had undergone a medical examination before being produced in court and also underwent Covid-19.
