Omicron: India gets new ‘weapon’ in war against covid, two corona vaccines approved by health ministry

cCovid-19 coronavirus: The health ministry has approved two more vaccines for emergency use in the fight against corona. Health Minister Mansukh Mandavia tweeted this information. These are the names of two vaccines – CORBEVAX and COVOVAX. In addition to CORBEVAX and COVOVAX, an anti-viral drug Malnupiravi has also been approved. Malnupiravi is an anti-viral drug that will now be manufactured by 13 companies in the country. It will be used in the treatment of adult covid patients in case of emergency.

The CORBEVAX vaccine is India’s first home-made RBD protein sub-unit vaccine developed to fight the Hyderabad-based firm Biological-E Corona. This is now the third vaccine made in India. Although the nanoparticle vaccine COVOVAX will be developed by the Serum Institute, Pune.

Earlier, an expert committee of the country’s Central Drugs Authority had recommended that the Serum Institute of India’s COVID-19 vaccine ‘Kovovax’ be allowed for emergency use with certain conditions. Prakash Kumar Singh, director of public and regulatory affairs at the Serum Institute of India (SII), submitted an application to the Drug Controller of India (DCGI) in October seeking permission for limited use of Kovavax in emergencies.

The expert committee evaluated and discussed SII’s application on November 27 and asked the pharmaceutical company to provide additional information. We inform you that from January 1, 15 to 18 year olds will be able to register for the vaccine on the ‘Covin’ portal. The only alternative to the vaccine for them would be ‘Kovacin’. Preparations are underway to vaccinate children against covid vaccine from January 3.
