New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday attended the 28th Foundation Day program of the National Human Rights Commission via video conferencing. While addressing the program, PM Modi mentioned about the safety of daughters and triple talaq. Along with this, he said that today the whole world accepts the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and India has shown the path of non-violence to the whole world.
We fought for rights for centuries: PM
While addressing the program, PM Narendra Modi said, ‘Wishing you all a very happy 28th Foundation Day of the National Human Rights Commission. This event is taking place today at a time when our country is celebrating the nectar festival of its independence. We fought for our rights for centuries. As a nation, as a society resisted injustice-atrocities. At a time when the whole world was burning in the violence of World War, India suggested the path of ‘rights and non-violence’ to the whole world.
India has shown the path of non-violence: PM Modi
PM Modi said, ‘It is the good fortune of all of us that today through Amrit Mahotsav, we are taking a pledge to live up to those values and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. I am satisfied that the National Human Rights Commission is giving strength to these moral resolves of India, giving its support. India is a country with great ideals, values and thoughts of Atmvat Sarvabhuteshu. Atmavat Sarvabhuteshu means all human beings as I am. There is no difference between human beings, living beings. He said, ‘India has continuously given a new vision to the world on issues related to equality and human rights. In the last decades, many such opportunities have come before the world, when the world has been confused, lost. But India has always been committed to human rights, has been sensitive.

The country is running on this basic mantra
The Prime Minister said, ‘Today the country is running on the basic mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’. In a way, this is the basic spirit of ensuring human rights. While talking to the country on this 15th August, I have emphasized that now we have to take the basic facilities up to 100% saturation. This campaign of cent percent saturation is to ensure the rights of the person standing in the last line of the society. He said, ‘The poor who were once forced to go in the open for defecation, when the poor get toilet, he also gets Dignity. The poor who could never muster the courage to go inside the bank, when the Jan Dhan account of that poor is opened, then he gets encouragement, his Dignity increases.
‘Women got rights through triple talaq law’
PM Modi said, ‘In the last years, the country has tried to remove injustice happening in different sections, at different levels. For decades Muslim women had been demanding a law against triple talaq. We have given new rights to Muslim women by enacting a law against triple talaq. He further said, ‘Today many sectors of work have been opened for women, it is being ensured that they can work 24 hours with security. Big countries of the world are not able to do this, but today India is giving 26 weeks paid maternity leave to career women.
Said this about the safety of daughters and the disabled
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, ‘What is the power of our disabled brothers and sisters, we have experienced it again in the recent Paralympics. In the last years, laws have also been made to empower the differently-abled, they have been linked with new facilities. Many legal steps related to the protection of daughters have been taken over the years. One stop centers are running in more than 700 districts of the country. Where women are given medical aid, police protection, legal aid and temporary shelter at one place.
Financial assistance given during Corona period: PM Modi
PM Modi said, ‘India has given financial assistance to the poor, helpless, elderly people directly in their accounts during this Corona period. The facility of ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ has also been started for migrant workers, so that wherever they go in the country, they do not have to wander for ration. Even in such difficult times of global pandemic, India tried that not a single poor should go hungry. Big countries of the world are not able to do this, but even today India is providing free food grains to 800 million people.
